ID verification

Identity verification is now a mandatory part of forming and running a UK company. Here is why, who it applies to, and how it works with Thucy.

Why it is required

Under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, people who form, direct, or significantly control UK companies must verify their identity with Companies House. It is designed to make the register more reliable and to reduce fraud. Forming companies for others is also regulated under the UK money laundering rules, so we carry out identity and anti-money-laundering checks as standard.

Who needs to verify

  • the person placing the order;
  • all appointed directors; and
  • people with significant control, usually anyone holding more than 25% of the shares or voting rights.

How it works

After you start, each person receives a secure link. They upload a valid photo ID, such as a passport, and complete a quick liveness selfie check through our verification partner. It usually takes a few minutes. If we cannot confirm an address electronically, we will ask for a recent utility bill or bank statement.
